Based on the work of the German physician Dr. Samuel Hahnemann in the early 1800’s, homeopathy is a system of treatment that tests on the theory that extremely minute doses of certain substances (herbal, mineral or animal), cause a response in a person that mimics a particular disease. These substances, or homeopathic remedies, are administered to a person with a disease exhibiting a similar symptom pattern, stimulating the body’s natural healing response. This is called `treatment by similars’ or `like cures like’. Homeopathy sees symptoms as the body’s reaction to disease as it attempts to overcome illness and seeks to stimulate, not suppress, this reaction, thus strengthening the overall immune system and physical and emotional health.
Kathleen Taylor has been studying and utilizing homeopathic medicines since 1990. With a background in nursing, she quickly found that homeopathic remedies had more to offer her young family than conventional medicines and began studying this form of therapy in 1992. She has practiced in Okotoks, Calgary and now in Edmonton, teaching classes and furthering her studies with doula certificate and Reiki practice. She has also now completed the Vancouver Homeopathic Academy’s diploma course to complement her initial diploma from the British Institute of Homeopathy. She continues to work in hospital as a registered psychiatric nurse.
